The Water City Arts Programme was launched by social entrepreneur Lord Mawson of Bromley-by-Bow in 2009, to promote music and arts in the local communities of East London.
From those beginnings, the Water City Music charity was formed.
Led by artistic director and violinist Michael Bochmann, Water City Music delivers mentoring music workshops in inner-city schools and works with other community groups. This mission to bring music alive culminates in an inspirational festival in the historic grounds of the Tower of London in June.
This year, thanks to the support of Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, Water City Music has extended its initiative to Birmingham.
“We plan to deepen and broaden our reach”, explains Michael Bochmann, “to bring improved musical skills, higher aspirations and increased confidence to many more inner-city children and other communities”
